Mark Zylker, representing Kingwood Alliance Soccer stated that about 20% of their players are adults and 80% are youth. Some 85% to 95% of the team members are Kingwood residents. Mark stresses that the River Grove fields are over used; they need more spacer and are negotiating with the Texas HeatWave for permission to use some of their fields. Alliance is awaiting a response from HeatWave people. Dick McGucken asked that Mark keep the committee informed of the negotiations, and offered assistance if desired. Mark also mentioned tat their temporary lights at River Grove are a safety concern.

Tom Denis, representing Kingwood Girls Softball Association mentioned that Northeast Christian Academy may request afternoon use of KGSA fields, provided they can find a coach. KGSA is agreeable to the arrangement. The matter must be presented to the sports group subcommittee for assurance that Parks Committee requirements, including adequate insurance coverage, are met. The matter could come before the KSA Parks Committee in March.

Significant improvements have been made at River Grove Park, including 91 feet of new bulkhead nears the boat ramp to eliminate erosion; replacement picnic tables, benches, and a grill; bollards to keep vehicles out of the playground and grass areas; a new standing seam metal roof donated by Byrnes Metal; and asphalt road repairs. At Deer Ridge Park, improvements include new picnic tables across from baseball fields 1 and 2, a new bike rack near the tennis courts, hand dryers in the restrooms, a new automatic gate at the north entrance and bollards have placed adjacent to the gates to prevent vehicles going around closed gates.

Approximately 1800 seedlings were planted at River Grover and Deer Ridge parks as part of a girl scout project.
