August 2010 PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE REPORT
TO THE SOUTH WOODLAND HILLS VILLAGE COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION
The KSA Public Safety Committee met at the South Woodland Hills Community Room on Wednesday, August 11, 2010. The crime report for the month of July 2010 Is as follows:

Officer Ulrich reported that the number of BMV/TMV cases and burglary cases in Kingwood increased in July. However, the crime rates follow a basic pattern that is fairly consistent over the years. When asked how crime in Kingwood compares to other areas in Houston, the police officers agreed that Kingwood is one of the safest areas, even when including The Woodlands. However, they stated that they considered any crime is too much crime.

National Night Out will he celebrated in Kingwood October 5, 2010. All villages are encouraged to sponsor a neighborhood get together; Houston police officers will be available to attend and meet with residents. A kick-off Night Out event is scheduled for October 2.

Jessica Colon, representing Keep Houston Safe PAC made a presentation in support of intersection safety cameras.

Gwendolyn Condoleo reported that the City of Houston will hold two Public Meetings on CenterPoint Energy's proposed 5 percent rate increase. As part of its review process, the city will hold the meetings to allow ratepayers the opportunity to voice quality of service concerns and/or objections to the proposed rate increase. The meetings will be held on Tuesday, August 17, 2010 and Tuesday, August 24, 2010, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., on the Public Level of the City Hall Annex, 900 Bagby, 77002.

With convenience in mind, Houston Municipal Courts has extended the hours of operation for the Kingwood Annex Court by two hours. The new hours are 8:00 am to 7:00 pm. The Kingwood Annex Court is open only on Wednesdays, and is closed noon to 1:00 pm,. The KSA Public Safety Committee approved spending $2,400 for a radar unit to be used by HPD in Kingwood, $2,046 to purchase a HPD bike to replace one stolen if the stolen bike is not found in 30 days, and $200 for locks for the HPD bike patrol bikes.
